Henry Vail
Henry Vail (born 1782 in Millbrook , New York , † June 25, 1853 in Troy , New York) was an American politician . Between 1837 and 1839 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Henry Vail was born near Millbrook during the Revolutionary War . He received a modest education. Between 1806 and 1815 he worked as a retailer and between 1815 and 1832 as a wholesaler. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . In the 1836 congressional elections for the 25th Congress , Vail was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of New York , where he succeeded Hiram P. Hunt on March 4, 1837 . In 1838 he suffered a defeat in his re-election and resigned from Congress on March 3, 1839 . After his time in Congress he resumed his previous business in Troy, where he died on June 25, 1853. His body was buried there in Oakwood Cemetery .
