San Juan Bosco Cathedral

The Cathedral of San Juan Bosco in Comodoro Rivadavia is the episcopal church of the Roman Catholic diocese of Comodoro Rivadavia in Argentina . It is the only cathedral dedicated to the founder of the Salesians, Don Bosco .

The cathedral was built by the local architect Pedro Carballo and completed in 1978. The crypt was already dedicated to Don Bosco in 1949, the planning for a cathedral built above began in 1958. On October 19, 1959, the diocese received a by Pope John XXIII. consecrated statue of St. Don Bosco .

The cathedral is a modern building made of brick and concrete . It is 62 meters long and 20 meters wide, the height of the ship is 17 meters.

With the aluminum cross, the tower reaches 60 meters, with the cross itself measuring 11 meters. It contains five boxes with letters from the faithful who helped build the cathedral.

Inside there is an apse wall , designed by the artist Dolores Ocampo de Morón , from which the panels of the high altar come. They show the Last Supper , the calling of the apostles and Eucharistic symbols. Jadwiga Szymanski de Koprowoski (Way of the Cross) and Marta Moroder (Maria-Hilf statue) also worked as artists .
