Thomas McKissock

Thomas McKissock (born April 17, 1790 in Montgomery , New York , † June 26, 1866 in St. Andrews , New York) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1849 and 1851 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Thomas McKissock was born in Montgomery about seven years after the War of Independence ended . He studied medicine and law . After receiving his license to practice law, he began practicing in Newburgh . In 1847 he was appointed Puisne Justice at the New York Supreme Court . Politically, he was a member of the Whig Party . In the 1848 congressional elections for the 31st Congress , McKissock was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of New York , where he succeeded Daniel B. St. John on March 4, 1849 . In 1850 he was defeated in his re-election bid and was eliminated from the after March 3, 1851 Congress of. He died on June 26, 1866 in St. Andrews, Orange County . His body was buried in Oldtown Cemetery , Newburgh.
