Benjamin Stanley Rosenthal (born June 8, 1923 in New York City , † January 4, 1983 in Washington, DC ) was an American soldier, lawyer and politician . Between 1962 and 1983 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Benjamin Stanley Rosenthal was born in New York City about five years after the end of World War I. He attended public schools, then Long Island University and City College . Rosenthal served in the US Army between 1943 and 1946 during World War II . He then went to Brooklyn Law School , which he left again in 1949 with a Bachelor of Laws . He made his Master of Laws in 1952 at New York University . He was admitted to the bar in 1949 and then began practicing in New York City. Admission to the New York Supreme Court followed in 1954. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

He was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington DC in a by-election on February 20, 1962 in the sixth constituency of New York to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Lester Holtzman . He then ran in 1964 in the eighth constituency of New York for a seat in Congress. After a successful election, he succeeded Victor Anfuso on January 4, 1965 . He was re-elected nine times in a row. In 1982 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in the seventh constituency of New York. Rosenthal succeeded Joseph Patrick Addabbo on January 4, 1983 , but died on the same day. His body was then interred in the Beth-David Cemetery in Elmont .
