George O. Belden

George Ogilvie Belden (born March 28, 1797 in Norwalk , Connecticut , † October 9, 1833 in Monticello , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1827 and 1829 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

George Ogilvie Belden was born in Norwalk in the late 18th century. He attended public schools. He then studied law with Charles Baker from Bloomingburg . After receiving his license to practice law, he began practicing in Monticello. Politically, he belonged to the Jacksonian faction.

In the 1826 congressional election for the 20th Congress , Belden was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the seventh constituency of New York , where he succeeded Abraham B. Hasbrouck on March 4, 1827 . Since he on a run again in 1828 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1829 Congress of.

After his time at Congress, he resumed his practice as a lawyer. In 1831 he served as a general in the 33rd Infantry Brigade of New York. He died in Monticello on October 9, 1833 and was buried in the Old Cemetery on St. John Street .
