Joseph H. Anderson

Joseph Halstead Anderson (born August 25, 1800 in Harrison , New York , † June 23, 1870 in White Plains , New York) was an American politician . Between 1843 and 1847 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Joseph Halstead Anderson was born and raised in the town of Harrison near White Plains in the early 19th century . During this time he attended community schools. After that he worked in agriculture. He was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1833 and 1834 . Between 1835 and 1838 he was a sheriff in Westchester County . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the congressional elections of 1842 for the 28th Congress , Anderson was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the seventh constituency of New York , where he succeeded John Van Buren on March 4, 1843 . He was re-elected once. Since he on a run again in 1846 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1847 Congress of. As a congressman, he chaired the Committee on Agriculture ( 29th Congress ).

After his time at the congress he was back in agriculture. He died on June 23, 1870 in White Plains and was buried in a private cemetery in "Anderson Hill" near White Plains.
