Rufus Palen

Rufus Palen (born February 25, 1807 in Palenville , New York , † April 26, 1844 in New York City ) was an American politician . Between 1839 and 1841 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Rufus Palen was born in Palenville about five years before the outbreak of the British-American War . The Palen family then moved to Fallsburg , where he received a modest education. Then he went to the production of leather. He held several local offices. Politically, he was a member of the Whig Party . In the 1838 congressional elections for the 26th Congress , Palen was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the seventh constituency of New York , where he succeeded John C. Brodhead on March 4, 1839 . Since he on a run again in 1840 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1841 Congress of. He died in New York City on April 26, 1844 and was buried in the Old Cemetery in Palenville.
