John C. Brodhead

John Curtis Brodhead (born October 27, 1780 in Modena , New York , † January 2, 1859 there ) was an American politician . He represented New York State in the US House of Representatives between 1831 and 1833 and between 1837 and 1839 .

Career

John Curtis Brodhead was born and raised in Modena during the War of Independence . During this time he attended district schools. After that he went about commercial business and worked in agriculture. Between 1825 and 1828 he was a sheriff in Ulster County .

Politically, he belonged to the Jacksonian faction at that time . In the 1830 congressional elections for the 22nd Congress , Brodhead was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the seventh constituency of New York , where he succeeded Charles G. De Witt on March 4, 1831 . Since he on a run again in 1832 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1833 Congress of. In the following time he joined the Democratic Party . In 1836 he was elected to the 25th Congress , where he succeeded Nicholas Sickles on March 4, 1837 . Since he refused to run again in 1838 , he left the Congress after March 3, 1839. As a Congressman, he chaired the Committee on Expenditures in the Department of the Navy (25th Congress).

After his time at the congress he went back to commercial business and was again active in agriculture. He died on January 2, 1859 in Modena and was then buried in the Modena Rural Cemetery .
