Hezekiah L. Hosmer

Hezekiah Lord Hosmer ( June 7, 1765 - June 9, 1814 in Hudson , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1797 and 1799 he represented the state of New York in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Hezekiah Lord Hosmer grew up during the British colonial period . He studied law . In 1785 he was admitted to the bar at the Mayor's Court of Hudson . Then he was a recorder in Hudson in 1793 and 1794.

Politically he belonged to the Federalist Party . In the congressional elections of 1796 Hosmer was elected in the sixth constituency of New York to the US House of Representatives, which was still in Philadelphia at that time , where he succeeded Ezekiel Gilbert on March 4, 1797 . He retired from the after March 3, 1799 Congress of. As a congressman he was 1798 impeachment trial ( impeachment ) against William Blount , US Senator from Tennessee conduct. However, the impeachment proceedings that had been initiated became irrelevant because Blount was expelled from the Senate on July 7, 1797.

After his time at the Congress he was again active as a recorder in 1810, 1811, 1813 and 1814. He died in Hudson on June 9, 1814.
