Henry Jepson Latham (born December 10, 1908 in Brooklyn , New York , † June 26, 2002 in Southold , New York) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1945 and 1958 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Henry Jepson Latham graduated from Richmond Hill High School and St. John's College in Brooklyn. He then went to Brooklyn Law School , where he first made his Bachelor of Laws and in 1931 his Master of Laws . After receiving his license to practice law, he began practicing in Brooklyn. Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party . He ran unsuccessfully for the New York Senate in 1938 . He was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1941 and 1942 . After the United States entered World War II , he enlisted in the US Navy in 1942 , where he served until he left in 1945. Then he was in the United States Navy Reserve .

In the 1944 congressional election he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the third constituency of New York , where he succeeded Joseph L. Pfeifer on January 4, 1945 . He was re-elected three times in a row. He then ran in 1952 in the fourth constituency of New York for a seat in Congress. After a successful election, he succeeded Gary Clemente on January 4, 1953 . He was re-elected twice in a row and resigned from his congress seat on December 31, 1958.

Between 1958 and 1972 he was a judge at the New York Supreme Court and between 1970 and 1979 in the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court. He died on June 26, 2002 in Southold and was buried there in Saint Patricks Cemetery .
