Timothy H. "Tim" Bishop (* 1. June 1950 in Southampton , Suffolk County , New York ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party . He was a member of the United States House of Representatives for New York State from 2003 to 2015 .

biography

Tim Bishop lives in the twelfth generation in Southampton on Long Island . He received his bachelor's degree from the College of the Holy Cross , Worcester, and his master's degree from Long Island University . He was a provost at Southampton College for a long time . In total, he was employed in various functions at the college for around 29 years.

In his first election to the US House of Representatives, he prevailed over Republican Felix Grucci by around 3,000 votes . He then became a representative of New York's first congressional district in the House of Representatives. Bishop was able to prevail in the five subsequent elections against his mostly Republican opponents. In 2010 he won it by just 235 votes ahead of Randy Altschuler. In 2014 he lost 45:55 percent of the vote to Republican Lee Zeldin , who then replaced him in Congress on January 3, 2015 .

Bishop lives in Southampton with his wife Kathryn and their two daughters Molly and Megan.
