George Joseph Hochbrueckner (born September 20, 1938 in Queens , New York ) is an American politician . Between 1987 and 1995 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In two and a half years George Joseph Hochbrueckner attended the State University of New York at Stony Brook , Hofstra University in Hempstead (New York), Franklin Pierce College in Rindge ( New Hampshire ) and California State University in Northridge ( California ). He then served in the US Navy between 1956 and 1959 . After his military service, he worked his way from a technician to an electrical engineer within five years through on-the-job training . He initially worked as an engineer and later as a researcher for Litton and Teledyne in California and Grumman in New York. Today he runs the consulting firm George J. Hochbrueckner & Associates , which was founded in Long Island and has an office in Washington DC.

Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . He was a member of the New York State Assembly between 1975 and 1984 . In the congressional elections of 1984 he suffered a defeat. He was only elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of New York in 1986 , where he succeeded William Carney on January 4, 1987 .
