William Floyd (born December 17, 1734 in Brookhaven , Long Island , Province of New York , † August 4, 1821 in Westernville , New York ) signed the United States' Declaration of Independence as the representative of New York and is thus one of the American founding fathers .

Floyd took over the family farm after his father's death. He was a member of the Suffolk County Militia during the early conflicts with Britain and became a major general. He was selected to represent New York in the Continental Congress from 1774 to 1776 . In 1808 he returned to the New York Senate.
