Peter H. Wendover

Peter Hercules Wendover (born August 1, 1768 in New York City , † September 24, 1834 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1815 and 1821 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Peter Hercules Wendover was born and raised in New York City about seven years before the outbreak of the Revolutionary War . He enjoyed a good education. He then held several public offices. He was a member of the New York City Volunteer Fire Department in 1796. Wendover took part as a delegate to the New York Constituent Assembly in 1801 and 1821 . He was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1804 . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson . In the congressional elections of 1814 , Wendover was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of New York , where he succeeded Jotham Post junior and William Irving on March 4, 1815 , who previously jointly served the second district in the US House of Representatives. He was re-elected twice in a row. Since he refused to run again in 1820 , he left the Congress after March 3, 1821 . He then worked as a sheriff in Manhattan between 1822 and 1825 . He died on September 24, 1834 and was buried in the Dutch Reformed Church Cemetery .
