Peter T. King

Peter T. King (also: Pete King ; born April 5, 1944 in New York City , New York ) is an American politician of the Republican Party . He has been a member of the US House of Representatives since 1993 and represents the 3rd  congressional electoral district in New York State, which consists of the eastern part of Nassau County on Long Island .

Life

Peter T. King was born in Manhattan in 1944 and grew up in Queens . He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Francis College in Brooklyn in 1965 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Notre Dame Law School in Notre Dame , Indiana in 1968 .

After graduating, he worked in the Nassau County District Attorney's office until 1974; during the same period he was also a member of the New York National Guard. He has been married to his wife Rosemary since 1967 and has two children.

Political career

King began his political career in 1977 as a member of the Hempstead , New York City Council . In 1981 he was elected Comptroller (head of accounting) in Nassau County, an office which he held until 1993. In 1986 he applied for the position of Attorney General of New York, but was defeated by the Democratic incumbent Robert Abrams . In 1993 he was elected a member of the US House of Representatives. As he was re-elected in all subsequent elections, including the one in 2016, he can continue to exercise his mandate today. His latest legislative term runs until January 3, 2019. Until 2013, he represented the third constituency of his state there. After a constituency restructuring in 2013, he represents the second constituency of his state in Congress,

King, who himself supported the IRA and NORAID , held a first hearing on the radicalization of Muslims in the US in March 2011; Critics see this as the danger of a witch hunt.
