Isaac B. Van Houten

Isaac B. Van Houten (born June 4, 1776 in Clarkstown (now New City ), province of New York , † August 16, 1850 there ) was an American politician . Between 1833 and 1835 he represented the state of New York in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Isaac B. Van Houten was born and raised in Clarkstown about a year after the outbreak of the War of Independence . He attended community schools. After that he worked in the mill and agriculture. Politically, he belonged to the Jacksonian faction. In the congressional elections of 1832 Van Houten was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of New York , where he succeeded John T. Bergen on March 4, 1833 . Since he refused to run again in 1834 , he left the Congress after March 3, 1835 . Then he resumed his old activities in the mill and agriculture. He died in Clarkstown on August 16, 1850 and was buried in the family cemetery on his Clarkstown estate.

According to the Biographical Directory of the United States Congress, Van Houten is said to have been a member of the New York State Assembly between 1833 and 1835 , although he was active in the US House of Representatives at that time.
