New City is a census-designated place and at the same time the administrative seat ( county seat ) of Rockland County in the state of New York in the United States with 33,559 inhabitants (2010).

New City is bounded to the north by Haverstraw , to the east by the Hudson River , to the west by the Palisades Interstate Parkway and to the south by Interstate 87 and is located approximately 30 kilometers north of the suburbs of New York City .
history
New City was founded in 1798. At this point, Rockland County was separated from Orange County . This also required an administrative seat for the new ( new ) county. For the sake of simplicity, this place was called New City . In addition to the administration, the inhabitants were mainly concerned with agriculture. Due to the proximity to New York City, but in a secluded and quiet area, some residents of the metropolis moved to New City, for example Lotte Lenja and Kurt Weil .
