Manuel Sanroma (born May 9, 1977 in Almagro , † June 19, 1999 in Vilanova i la Geltrú ) was a Spanish cyclist .
In 1993 Manuel Sanroma was the Spanish youth champion in road racing .
Five years later, in 1998, Sanroma, now a professional, won a stage of the Volta ao Alentejo and became a member of the Spanish national team. In 1999 he won four stages of this tour , one stage of the Vuelta Ciclista a la Communidad Valenciana (before Mario Cipollini ) and two stages of the Asturias Tour . He also won three stages of the Tour of Venezuela and at times wore the leader's jersey. In June 1999, on the second stage of the Tour of Catalonia , he fell one kilometer from the finish, hit his head on the curb and was dead on the spot. He was wearing a helmet, but fell on his chin and his neck Broken.
Since 2006, the Manuel Sanroma Memorial has been held in Sanroma's hometown , winners of which include Óscar Sevilla and Alberto Contador .
