Rick Lazio

Enrico Anthony "Rick" Lazio (born March 13, 1958 in Amityville , New York ) is an American politician . Between 1993 and 2001 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Rick Lazio graduated from West Islip High School in 1976 and Vassar College in 1980 . After completing a law degree at American University and being admitted to the bar in 1984, he began to work in this profession. He was also serving as an assistant district attorney in Suffolk County . Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . From 1990 to 1993 he was a member of the Suffolk County County Council.

In the 1992 congressional election , Lazio was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of New York , where he succeeded Thomas Downey on January 3, 1993 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress until January 3, 2001 . There he was temporarily chairman of a House Banking Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity . In 2000 he decided not to run for the US House of Representatives again. Instead, he applied for a seat in the US Senate . He was defeated by the former First Lady Hillary Clinton .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Lazio withdrew from politics for a few years. Instead, he worked in the private business world. In 2010, he entered the Republican primary for the election of governor of New York , but lost to Carl Paladino . Then the Conservative Party of New York State put him up as a candidate, but a little later Lazio decided not to participate in the election.
