Frederic Storm

Frederic Storm (born July 2, 1844 in Alsace , France , † June 9, 1935 in Bayside , New York ) was an American politician . Between 1901 and 1903 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Frederic Storm was born in France in 1844. Two years later, his family immigrated to the United States and settled in New York City . In the same year the Mexican-American War broke out. Storm attended public schools in New York City and later worked in the cigar manufacturing business. Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party . In 1894 he took part in the New York Constituent Assembly . The following year he was elected to the New York State Assembly . Between 1894 and 1900 he sat on the Queens County Republican Committee and chaired three times. He was the founder of Flushing Hospital . In the congressional election of 1900 Storm was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of New York , where he succeeded Townsend Scudder on March 4, 1901 . In 1902 he suffered a defeat in his re-election and resigned from Congress on March 3, 1903 . He then went into banking in Bayside. Storm founded Bayside National Bank in 1905 and was its president until his resignation in 1920. He died on June 9, 1935 in Bayside and was then buried in Flushing Cemetery in Flushing .
