John J. Wood

John Jacob Wood (born February 16, 1784 in Clarkstown (now New City ), New York , † May 20, 1874 there ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1827 and 1829 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Jacob Wood was from 1809 to 1812 as a town clerk ( town clerk working) in Clarkstown. He then went to work as a school inspector in 1815 and 1823. Politically, he belonged to the Jacksonian faction. In the 1826 congressional election , Wood was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the second constituency of New York , where he succeeded Joshua Sands on March 4, 1827 . Since he refused to run again in 1828, he left the Congress after March 3, 1829 . He then went back to work as a school inspector between 1829 and 1831 and 1835 and 1837. In 1837 he served as a guardianship and probate judge ( surrogate ) of Rockland County . His last political appearance was in 1846 as a delegate to the New York Constituent Assembly . He died in New City on May 20, 1874 and was buried in the Old Wood Burying Ground .
