Obadiah Bowne

Obadiah Bowne (born May 19, 1822 in Richmond , New York , † April 27, 1874 in Richmond, New York) was an American politician . Between 1851 and 1853 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Obadiah Bowne was born and raised near Richmond about seven years after the end of the British-American War . He attended private schools and then studied at Princeton College between 1838 and 1840 . Bowne held several local offices. Politically, he was a member of the Whig Party . In the congressional election of 1850 Bowne was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of New York , where he succeeded David A. Bokee on March 4, 1851 . Since he refused to run again in 1852 , he left the Congress after March 3, 1853 . Then he was from 1857 to 1859 as a quarantine representatives to achieve active and in the third year of the Civil War as a Republican elector ( Presidential Elector ) in the presidential election . He died in Richmond on April 27, 1874 and was buried in St. Andrew's Cemetery .
