Moses Fowler Odell (born February 24, 1818 in Tarrytown , New York , † June 13, 1866 in Brooklyn , New York) was an American politician . Between 1861 and 1865 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Moses Fowler Odell was born in Tarrytown about three years after the end of the British-American War . He enjoyed a good education. Then he worked in 1845 as a clerk ( clerk ) at the customs office of New York and later became public expert . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . In the congressional elections of 1860 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of New York , where he succeeded James Humphrey on March 4, 1861 . Two years later he was elected to the third constituency of New York, where he succeeded Benjamin Wood . He retired from the after March 3, 1865 Congress of. During his time as Congressman, he chaired the Committee on Expenditures in the Department of the Treasury ( 37th Congress ) and was a member of the Joint Committee on the Conduct of the War . After the end of his tenure, he was appointed Navy agent in New York City , a position he held until his death on June 13, 1866 in Brooklyn. His body was then interred in Green-Wood Cemetery .
