James De La Montanya
James De La Montanya (born March 20, 1798 in New York City , † April 29, 1849 there ) was an American politician . Between 1839 and 1841 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .
Career
James De La Montanya was born and raised in New York City in the late 18th century . He then lived in Haverstraw and was Town Supervisor there in 1832 and 1833 . He was also a member of the New York State Assembly in 1833 . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . In the congressional election of 1838 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of New York , where he succeeded Abraham Vanderveer on March 4, 1839 . Since he refused to run again in 1840 , he left the Congress after March 3, 1841 . He died in New York City about a year after the end of the Mexican-American War on April 29, 1849, and was buried in the Barnes family cemetery at Stony Point .
