Joseph Egbert

Joseph Egbert (born April 10, 1807 at Bull Head , New York , † July 7, 1888 at New Dorp , New York) was an American politician . Between 1841 and 1843 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Joseph Egbert was born at Bull Head about five years before the outbreak of the British-American War . He attended community schools and then worked in agriculture. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . In the congressional election of 1840 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of New York , where he succeeded James De La Montanya on March 4, 1841 . Since he refused to run again in 1842 , he left the Congress after March 3, 1843 . Then he resumed his work in agriculture. He was in the years 1855 and 1856 as Town Supervisor of Southfield active and four years after the end of the Civil War as a town clerk ( county clerk ) of Richmond County . He died on July 7, 1888 at his home at New Dorp and was buried in Moravian Cemetery .
