Edmund H. Driggs

Edmund Hope Driggs (born May 2, 1865 in Brooklyn , New York , † September 27, 1946 there ) was an American politician . Between 1897 and 1901 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edmund Hope Driggs was born in the then separate city of Brooklyn during the final months of the Civil War . He attended public schools and the Adelphi Academy in Brooklyn. He then worked in the accident insurance business. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . He was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of New York on December 6, 1897 , to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Francis H. Wilson . In the following congressional elections in 1898 he was elected for a full term to the US House of Representatives. However, he suffered a defeat when he ran again in 1900 and resigned from Congress on March 3, 1901 . He then continued to pursue the accident insurance business, but was also active in safety technology. He died in Brooklyn on September 27, 1946 and was buried in Cypress Hills Cemetery .
