Denis O'Leary

Denis O'Leary (born January 22, 1863 in Manhasset , New York , † September 27, 1943 in Douglaston , New York) was an American lawyer and politician . He represented New York State in the US House of Representatives in 1913 and 1914 .

Career

Denis O'Leary was born in Manhasset during the Civil War . He attended public schools and later taught there. O'Leary studied law at New York University Law School, where he graduated in 1890. He was admitted to the bar that same year and then began practicing in New York City. In 1905 and 1906 he served as deputy corporation counsel of New York City and in 1911 and 192 as public works commissioner in the borough of Queens . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . In the 1912 congressional elections he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of New York , where he succeeded George H. Lindsay on March 4, 1913 . He left Congress on December 31, 1914 at his own request . Between 1915 and 1921 he was a District Attorney in Queens. He then worked as a lawyer again until his retirement in 1929. He died on September 27, 1943 and was buried in Mount St. Mary's Cemetery in Flushing .
