William F. Brunner

William Frank Brunner (born September 15, 1887 in Woodhaven , Queens , New York City , † April 23, 1965 in Far Rockaway , New York City) was an American politician . Between 1929 and 1935 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Frank Brunner attended public schools, Far Rockaway High School, and Packard Commercial School . He moved to Rockaway Park in 1901 , where he worked in the insurance and real estate businesses. Between 1917 and 1919 he served as Yeoman First Class in the US Navy . He was a member of the New York State Assembly between 1922 and 1928 . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . In the 1928 congressional elections he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of New York , where he succeeded John J. Kindred on March 4, 1929 . He was re-elected three times in a row. After he was elected Sheriff in Queens, he resigned on September 27, 1935 from his congressional seat. He served in that position until his resignation the following year. Between 1936 and 1938 he was President of the Board of Aldermen in New York City. Then he went back to insurance and real estate business. In the period from July 1 to December 31, 1941, he was the Commissioner of Borough Works in Queens. He then ran unsuccessfully in 1942 for a Democratic nomination and for the American Labor Party for the 78th Congress .

Between 1946 and 1965 he was President of Rockaway Beach Hospital (later renamed Peninsula General Hospital ). He died on April 23, 1965 in Far Rockaway and was then buried in St. John's Cemetery in Middle Village .
