The castle Krenkingen is an Outbound hilltop castle on a 634 m above sea level. NHN high mountain spur made of granite porphyry in the Steinatal about 100 meters south of Altkrenkingen Castle below Krenkingen , a current district of Waldshut-Tiengen in the district of Waldshut ( Baden-Württemberg ).
The castle was built in the second half of the 12th century by the barons of Krenkingen . From the former castle , which could have been a tower castle , the castle hill and the neck moat are still recognizable. In 1361 the castle was destroyed and the castle stable was pledged by the lords of Krenkingen, as well as the castles Neukrenkingen and Altkrenkingen, to the lords of Hohenfels.
The castle researcher Heinz Voellner determined a wall length of 70 m and compared it in size with the Küssaburg (before it was developed into a fortress). A castle path led from the Steinatal around the rock to the castle.
history
The Krenkingers were once an important noble family; they are considered to be the founder of the city of Tiengen and builder of the "Old Tower" of Tiengen Castle . Well-known family members were Diethelm von Krenkingen and Martin von Weißenburg .
