Leinegg Castle

The castle Leinegg is an Outbound hilltop castle on a narrow ridge above the Schwarzatal at the former Scheuerhofs south of Strittberg, in the municipality of Höchenschwand in the district of Waldshut in Baden-Württemberg .

history

The castle was built in the 11th century by the lords of Leinegg . In 1279 the noble Ulricus von Loenegge is mentioned in a document. In 1328 the settlement in Leinegg consisted of 2 farms and a mill belonging to the St. Blasien monastery . At this point it can be assumed that the Lords of Leinegg had already died out and the castle had already fallen into disrepair. In the course of time the Leinegg was divided into an upper and lower Leinegg. The Oberleinegg with the mill and the Scheuerhof belonged to the Höchenschwand unity, the Unterleinegg with 2 farms to the Berauer Berg . Oberleinegg and Unterleinegg were separated from each other by the Schwarza. The Eckert family is mentioned as the owner of the Scheuerhof and the mill from the 14th century to 1868. In 1868 the Scheuerhof and the mill were sold to the Tiengen Forestry Office. In 1928 the mill burned down and in the 1970s the Scheuerhof, which served as a youth home, burned down.

location

Small remains of the former castle complex are still preserved today. An old path, several fortified walls and an excavated neck ditch that are still visible today can be identified. According to the castle researcher Heinz Voellner, the location of the ridge was made for a castle. The way to the castle led over a ravine that can only be passed by one man at a time. At the outermost point the ridge subsides and gives a free, 20 meters long and at the widest point 8 meters wide area with a good view of the Leinegg area and the Schwarza and Fohrenbach valleys.
