Untereggingen ruins

The Untereggingen ruin is an abandoned hilltop castle on a shell limestone terrace about 60 meters above Untereggingen (field name "Burghalde"), a district of the municipality of Eggingen in the Waldshut district in Baden-Württemberg .

The castle was probably built by the Lords of Küssenberg in Klettgau and is perhaps in dispute with the creation of the Landgraviate of Stühlingen . 1251 the Counts of Lupfen are named as owners of the village. A “Burg Untereggingen” or a family “von Unterggingen” does not appear in a document anywhere. Small remnants of the wall with the outer and main castle are still preserved from the former castle complex, presumed and used by the castle researcher Heinz Voellner .
