Pool feeder

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pool feeder (German: pool vacuum) or Telmophagen (eat Greek τέλμα (Telma) = puddle swamp and φαγείν (phagein) =) are those blood-sucking insects ( haematophagous ) which with coarse mouthparts tear a wound in the skin. They feed on the emerging “puddle” of blood, lymph and cell fluid . Pool feeders are e.g. B. the horseflies (Tabanidae) and the black flies (Simuliidae) .

Telmophagy is the name of the corresponding diet, in English "Telmophagy". In German, the term is still a little unfamiliar, but seems to be becoming common.
