Forest Castle (Waldshut)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Waldschloss , also known as the Waldschloss-Brauerei or Brauerei-Waldschloss , was a chalet-style restaurant with a brewery in the historicist style in Waldshut .

The brewery owner Reinhart Härle ran the Waldschloss brewery on the Ochsenbuckel . Of his 13 siblings, three of his brothers were also independent brewers and maltsters . His brother Clemens Härle founded the Clemens Härle brewery , which still exists today .

Around 1899 Reinhart Härle commissioned the architect Jacques Gros to plan a restaurant based on the model of the Grand Hotel Dolder . In 1903 the forest castle was inaugurated. It was a popular place on the hill above the Upper Rhine . Around 1920 it came into the possession of the city of Waldshut, which set up various schools here and ultimately the Waldschloss Realschule . Together with the remaining brewery buildings, it was sold to the Waldshut district at the end of the 1970s for 1.2 million DM . After much discussion, it was finally canceled in October 1980 to make room for the Waldshut district office. The design for the new building, inaugurated on May 3, 1984, comes from the Waldshut architect Otto Thoß.
