The Clemens Härle KG brewery is a private brewery founded in 1897 in Leutkirch im Allgäu in the Ravensburg district .

history

Clemens Härle came from a farming family from Kirchdorf an der Iller . He had 13 other siblings. Four of his brothers learned the brewer - and Mälzerhandwerk in Oberdischingen in Ulm . His brother Reinhart Härle ran the Waldschloss brewery in Waldshut , his brother Fridolin ran the Königsegger WalderBräu in Königseggwald .

Initially , Clemens Härle leased the castle brewery in Bad Wurzach . This burned down. In 1895 he acquired the Mohren Brewery in Leutkirch in the Allgäu . The company premises are located on Wangener Straße, directly on the Eschach . The brewery included a farm , a brewery inn and other properties . Immediately after the purchase in 1896, Clemens Härle built a new brewery building. It was completed in just eight months of construction and the first brew was boiled on February 16, 1897 . Beer is still brewed in this three-story brick building today. The brothers Carl, Otto and Hugo took over the brewery. After that, Karl-Clemens and Hermann were at the head of the brewery.

Today the family business is run by Gottfried Härle, a great-grandson of Clemens Härle. The company is a founding member of the Federal Association of the Green Economy, which was founded in 1992 . This principle corresponds to the self-portrayal as the first climate-neutral brewery in Germany ( CO 2 -neutral energy concept since 2009, including vehicle fleet).

The brewery advertised the label “digestible” until the summer of 2015, until the Ravensburg Regional Court classified this designation as unlawful on August 26, 2015, based on misleading consumers. The use of the controversial name was prohibited. An appeal to the Stuttgart Higher Regional Court was unsuccessful, as was a lawsuit at the Federal Court of Justice .

In 2018, around 36,000 hectoliters of beer and organic soft drinks were brewed. The output is distributed over 13 different types of beer and mixed beer beverages, with Härle Gold and Härles Feine Weisse being the main sales drivers. The range is complemented by commercial beer, fruit juices and non-alcoholic soft drinks. Since 2000 beer output has increased by around 20%. During the same period, total sales by breweries in Germany fell by 10%, and that in Baden-Württemberg by more than 15%.

280 restaurants and bars are supplied in Upper Swabia and the Allgäu , as well as beverage markets. The draft beer share is 28%. The company has 35 employees and two trainees.

The brewery attaches great importance to working exclusively with regional raw materials. The brewing barley comes from farmers in Upper Swabia and the hops from Tettnang (organic hops from organic farmer Peter Bentele). When it comes to organic wheat, Bavarian organic farms are also used.
