Oberdischingen is on the Danube , between Ehingen (Danube) (9 km) and Ulm (18 km).
Neighboring communities
The municipality borders in the north on the Niederhofen district of the municipality Allmendingen , in the east and south on the city of Erbach and in the west on Öpfingen .
history
Oberdischingen was first mentioned in a document in 1148. In 1343 it came under Austrian rule. In 1520 the barons of Stotzingen were enfeoffed with the village, who sold it to the family of Count Schenk von Castell in 1661 . Franz Ludwig Schenk von Castell , who became known as the Malefizschenk, set up his prison here . The most famous prisoner of the penitentiary was the well-known vagante and crook Elisabetha Gaßner , who was executed here on July 16, 1788. In 1806 Oberdischingen - like the entire area - became part of Württemberg . In 1927, the community acquired the "Rittergut Oberdischingen", which also included the "Chancellery building" (today the town hall). In 1960 the Oberdischingen exceeded the 1000-inhabitant limit.

Oberdischingen is on the Upper Swabian Baroque Road . The extraordinary historical town center is worth seeing: Houses in the French-Baroque mansard style were built by Franz Ludwig Count Schenk von Castell (1736–1821), who was also known as “Malefizschenk” due to his role in criminal prosecution in Upper Swabia in the 19th century .
Buildings
- Catholic parish church "For the Most Holy Name of Jesus" from 1804, also called the Swabian Pantheon . It replaced the former Church of Our Lady, of which only a fragment of the wall remains as a memorial stone (opposite the rectory). The bell from 1510 is also still preserved.
- Trinity Chapel pilgrimage church from 1712
- The three-winged chancellery building from 1767 now houses the town hall, a parish hall and a clubhouse
Regular events
- The Musikverein Oberdischingen organizes its traditional Easter concert on Easter Sunday. The Parkfest takes place in June and there is also an Oktoberfest in October, both of which are organized by the Musikverein.
- The driving force behind the Swabian-Alemannic carnival is the Oberdischingen fool society with the fool groups “crooks”, “hangman's drummers”, “malefiz women” and “castle ghosts” derived from the history of the place.
