history

The castle Rechtenstein is the seat of the Family Stain first mentioned in documents in 1331, as inhabited by Berthold Stain the castle and the nickname to distinguish from other Stainschen lines from Rechtenstein At length. The von Stain family itself is mentioned for the first time in 922 (previous mentions uncertain whether this family is really meant). On August 12, 1410, Wolf vom Stain sold part of the town that had meanwhile been formed around the castle to Württemberg . In 1557 Bernhard vom Stain bought back all shares in the castle and village, so that the entire place was again family property.

In 1739 the Rechtensteiner line of the vom Stain family died out. In 1806 the place finally fell to Württemberg . In 1817 the castle, with the exception of the castle tower, was demolished.

Religions

Rechtenstein remained a Roman Catholic even after the Reformation . The baroque parish church of St. Georg was consecrated in 1744.

politics

mayor

In April 2015 Romy Wurm was re-elected (honorary) for a third term with 95.5% of the votes.

coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved by the Interior Ministry on August 3, 1957.

Blazon : "In silver, a continuous red cross, covered with a golden heart shield, in it three fallen black wolf tangs on top of each other."

In the thirties of the last century, the municipality included a coat of arms in its official seal, which contained the quarter shield of the barons or counts of Stain zum Rechtenstein placed on a German order cross. The coat of arms of a member of the Ortadel family belonging to the Teutonic Order apparently served as a template for this representation. With advice from the Stuttgart archives department, the current municipal coat of arms was developed from this. It connects the red George Cross as a reference to the local church patron with the family coat of arms of the local nobility.
