Lauterach is a small community in the Alb-Donau district in Baden-Württemberg . The community belongs to the administrative community of Munderkingen . Lauterach is part of the Swabian Alb biosphere area with a large part of its territory (92.2%) .

geography

In the Lauter Valley near Lauterach

Lauterach is located on the southern edge of the Swabian Alb at the confluence of the Great Lauter with the Danube , about 35 kilometers southwest of Ulm .

In addition to Lauterach, the community includes the districts of Neuburg , Talheim and Reichenstein .

Neighboring communities

The community borders Ehingen in the north and east , Untermarchtal and Obermarchtal in the south , and Rechtenstein and Emeringen in the west .

history

Lauterach, whose name is derived from the river name Lauter , was first mentioned in 1229 . After various changing rulers, the area finally came to Württemberg in 1803 (except for Talheim, which did not follow until 1806) . With the establishment of the Oberamt Zwiefalten in 1809, today's municipal area was assigned to it, but came to the Oberamt Ehingen as early as 1810. Since the municipal reorganization in 1938, Lauterach has belonged to the district of Ehingen , which was added to the Alb-Donau district on January 1, 1973 . In 1973 the community joined the Munderkingen administrative association and was thus able to maintain its independence.

Neuburg

Neuburg was first mentioned in a document in the 1260s. It was incorporated into Lauterach in 1803.

Reichenstein

Reichenstein was first mentioned in a document in 1276. It emerged as a hamlet around the castle of the same name. The Laufenmühle located there was first mentioned in 1492 under the name Lauffen die mulin . Reichenstein was incorporated into Lauterach in 1812.

Talheim

Talheim is the oldest part of Lauterach, it was mentioned in a document as early as 776 . From 1743 it belonged to the Counts of Fugier before it fell to Württemberg in 1806 and was assigned to the Oberamt Ehingen. In 1815 Talheim was incorporated into Lauterach.

Religions

Chapel of the Assumption of Mary

Lauterach is predominantly Catholic. In addition to the parish church in the Neuburg district, there are also chapels in the other districts. The Sisters of Charity of Saint Vincent von Paul in Untermarchtal run a rest home for religious sisters in the Talheim district.

The few Protestant residents of Lauterach belong to the parish in Mundingen .

Lauterach has a primary school for the first and second grades. Third and fourth graders visit the school in Untermarchtal , while their first and second graders go to school in Lauterach.

  • Mühlenweiler Laufenmühle in Lautertal with a small open-air museum. The preserved tufa sawing machine is reminiscent of the lime sinter mining in Lautertal.
