Weidenstetten is a municipality in the Alb-Donau district in Baden-Württemberg .

Weidenstetten is located about 20 kilometers north of Ulm in the area of the Mittlerer Flachalb , near the Lonetal .

The community borders in the north on Altheim (Alb) , in the east on Neenstetten , in the south on Holzkirch and Westerstetten and in the west on Lonsee .

history

Thanks to fertile soils, settlement began on the Alb in the early Neolithic. Weidenstetten is located in the old settlement area, which has numerous evidence of settlement from the Merovingian period . However, after its name ended in -stetten, the place is only in an expansion phase. Excavations in the Petruskirche show that it was first built in the 10th century. Immediately north of the church, an artificially built castle hill can still be seen today, on which the rectory now stands. see also Weidenstetten Castle
Geographical analyzes of the settlement image showed a modern settlement growth through Seldner houses , of which some examples have been preserved in the western part of the place.
Religions
Weidenstetten has been predominantly evangelical since the Reformation , but just under 20% of the population are Roman Catholic today . The Lonseer district Ettlenschieß also belongs to the Protestant parish .

The Weidenstetter coat of arms consists of a green willow tree with a black trunk on a silver background that grows out of a green mountain. The coat of arms was awarded to the municipality in 1930 .
