Staig is a municipality in the southern Alb-Donau district in Baden-Württemberg . The community belongs to the Kirchberg-Weihungstal community administration association based in Illerkirchberg.
geography
Geographical location
Staig is located on the plateau between the Danube and Iller, south of Ulm . The districts of Steinberg and Altheim lie on the ridges on both sides of the Weihungstal, the other districts are in the Weihung valley or in a side valley. The community thus also belongs to the landscape of wooden sticks .
Neighboring communities
The community borders in the north on the Unterweiler district of the city of Ulm, in the east on Illerkirchberg , in the southeast on Illerrieden , in the south on Schnürpflingen and in the west on Hüttisheim .
Community structure
The municipality of Staig consists of the six districts Altheim ob Weihung , Essendorf , Harthausen , Staig, Steinberg and Weinstetten .
history
Staig was first mentioned in 1127 as Steiga , Altheim followed in 1194. However, the oldest district is Harthausen, which appeared in a document as early as 1093. The other districts followed in the 14th century.
On April 1, 1972, the Steinberg community was incorporated into Weinstetten , which was renamed Staig on October 9, 1972. On January 1, 1976, Altheim was added by the consecration.

The non-party mayor Martin Jung was elected for a fourth term on January 24, 2016 with almost 97% of the votes.
Municipal council
The municipal council in Staig has 14 members. The local election on May 26, 2019 led to the following official final result. The municipal council consists of the elected voluntary councilors and the mayor as chairman. The mayor is entitled to vote in the municipal council.
