history

Middle Ages and early modern times

In 1127 the place was still called Rammungun and at that time it belonged to the county of Albeck. Local nobility as Albeck feudal people were the lords of Rammingen. Rammingen (with the hamlet of Lindenau) was first mentioned in 1286 when the lords of Rammingen were helpless stone vassals. With the county of Albeck, supremacy went to Ulm in 1383. The citizens of Ramming were later in Upper Swabian imperial cities, then in the service of Württemberg until the 17th century. In 1286, Margrave Heinrich von Burgau donated the church and various goods to Kaisheim Monastery, which over the years largely acquired the manorial power, including five farms and 17 Sölden from Oberelchingen Monastery in 1665. As a result of this ownership situation, Ulm was unable to reform the place in the 16th century. That is why the congregation remained Catholic, while all surrounding villages changed to the Protestant denomination.

In 1286, Margrave Heinrich von Burgau also donated the monastery of Lindenau, originally a parish village, with the church of Rammingen to the monastery of Kaisheim . The parish church mentioned here was the pilgrimage church to the painful Mother of God. At that time it was an independent parish church, but had a low income and was therefore connected to the church of Rammingen at the request of the abbot of Bishop Marquard of Augsburg as early as 1350, which resulted in disputes until the end of the Holy Roman Empire.

19th century

In the course of mediatization , Rammingen fell to the Electorate of Bavaria in 1803 and to the Kingdom of Württemberg in 1810 . At first the place belonged to the Oberamt Albeck and from 1819 to the Oberamt Ulm . In 1875, the construction of the Brenzbahn reached the town of Rammingen, with which the connection to the route network of the Württembergische Eisenbahn was completed.

20th century

Rammingen came to the newly formed district of Ulm in 1938 . After the Second World War, the place developed from an originally purely agricultural community to a settlement also for workers and employees, which developed from 1952, especially around the train station. Also in the 1950s, the construction of the Heusteige began on the southern outskirts. From the 1970s, the Weiheräcker development area and the industrial area in the northwest of Rammingen were built. Rammingen has been part of the Alb-Donau district since 1973.

Religions

In contrast to the Protestant neighboring towns, Rammingen is still today Catholic. This is due to the fact that a large part of the place belonged to the Kaisheim monastery and therefore the influence of Ulm was not enough to reform Rammingen .

After the demolition of the medieval nave in 1895, the construction of a neo - Gothic three - aisled pillar basilica began , of which St. George is the patron . In 1983 a renovation took place. The old rectory now serves as a parish hall.
