nature and landscape
The juniper heaths near Aichen are particularly protected. A 49.9 hectare area was declared a Mönchsteig nature reserve by the Tübingen regional council on February 20, 1991. The heathland should be preserved and cared for in its typical appearance with the extensive agriculture associated with it as sheep pasture. Economy and Infrastructure
traffic
Nellingen is located between Geislingen an der Steige and Laichingen directly on the federal motorway 8 Stuttgart - Munich ( Merklingen junction ).
The community belongs to the Donau-Iller local transport network . The bus line 49 connects the place with Ulm , the line 360 with the train station Geislingen (Steige) on the Filstalbahn Stuttgart-Ulm. A little closer, namely eight kilometers northeast of Nellingen, is the Amstetten (Württ) train station on the Filstalbahn. From there, the Württemberg Railway Company operated the Amstetten – Laichingen branch line until 1985. The trains also stopped at the stations in Oppingen and Nellingen. Part of the meter-gauge railway from Amstetten to Oppingen is now a museum railway .
As part of the new Wendlingen – Ulm line under construction , the establishment of the Merklingen (Swabian Alb) train station is being considered, and Nellingen will contribute financially to its costs.
In the triangle between Nellingen, Amstetten and Oppingen there is also the Oppingen-Au glider airfield , which can be approached by motor gliders , single-engine aircraft up to 2 t MTOW and ultralight aircraft.
