The Oppingen-Au glider airfield is located between Nellingen , Oppingen and Amstetten on the Swabian Alb . The glider airfield operated by the Gingen / Fils Fliegergruppe has a grass runway and is recorded as the Oppingen-Au glider airfield on the ICAO map 1: 500,000 2014 edition, sheet Stuttgart (NO 47/6).
history
The first take-off of a glider on the airfield site took place in 1953. In 1973 a continuous 800 m long and approx. 25 m wide grass runway was laid out, which also made it possible to operate tow planes. In 1996 and 1999 the square was expanded to the south and west.
The airfield hut was the first building to be erected in 1958. The aircraft were housed in this until 1974 and had to be rebuilt for each flight operation. The first hangar was built in 1974, a gas station followed in 1982 and another hangar in 1986.
The airfield is still not connected to the water and electricity network. Electricity is generated using our own diesel generators. Rainwater is collected in a cistern and treated.
