Nellingen (formerly Nellingen auf den Fildern , Swabian Nällenga ['nɛleŋɐ̃]) is a district of the city of Ostfildern in Baden-Württemberg . The place lies between the Ostfildern districts Parksiedlung and Scharnhausen as well as Denkendorf , Berkheim and Zollberg .

history

Nellingen was first mentioned in 1120 as Nallingen . The local nobility, the noble free von Nellingen, laid the foundation stone for the later provost through a foundation at the St. Blasien Monastery , which was finally founded around 1250 by the St. Blasien Monastery. Wuerttemberg probably already exercised the bailiwick over the provost at that time , but it was not until 1649 that Wuerttemberg exchanged the bailiwick for other rights of St. Blaise. The community belonged to the Stuttgart Office or Upper Office and came to the Esslingen Upper Office in 1810 , from which the Esslingen district emerged in 1938.

During the Second World War, the Nellingen airfield, a military airfield of the Luftwaffe , was built here, which was given the code name Airfield R.94 after being occupied by Americans in the spring of 1945 . The US Army continued to use it as a base for army aviators until 1992. Since then, the new Scharnhauser Park district has been there .

In 1955, the construction of a new settlement, the park settlement , began on the Nellingen district . This then became a district of Nellingen and has been an independent district of Ostfildern since 2006.

On January 1, 1975, Nellingen became the municipality of Ostfildern as part of the municipal reform with Ruit auf den Fildern , Kemnat and Scharnhausen .

Buildings

St. Blasius Church in Nellingen with a tower from the 13th century.

In the south-west of the district is the historic center, which is mainly characterized by the monastery courtyard . The provost's office had its seat here until it was abolished in 1649, after which the facility was the Württemberg Chamber of Commerce until 1836.

The center of the monastery courtyard is formed by the Protestant St. Blaise Church , whose late Romanesque tower was built in 1220. The tower has a square floor plan that tapers towards the top to form an octagon. It is considered the oldest church tower of this type in Württemberg. The nave was renewed in 1777 after the old building was damaged by storms in 1749. The church was renovated in 1926 with the addition of a parish hall. The last comprehensive renovation took place in 1994/95. The neighboring rectory from 1565 is one of the oldest buildings in Nellingen, was a rectory until 1838 and has been owned by the city since 1975, which it completely renovated in 1980.

The Propsteig building also dates back to the 16th century; the oldest parts of the building date from around 1500, the building in its current form was built until 1599. The cloister courtyard also includes the town hall and the fruit box with a historical stepped gable .
