history

In 1956, the construction of a "Weiler Park" estate under heritable building rights began on the private property of the House of Württemberg . The aim was to provide the displaced persons and refugees as well as those looking for accommodation in the region with modern living space. Many buildings were built as social housing . Urban planner and architect of almost all buildings was Dr.-Ing. Karl Georg Siegler (1913–1991), who designed a residential area in the countryside. The first houses were occupied in 1957. On a total of 41.7 hectares, a settlement with over 1,000 residential units was built in several construction phases by around 1970. In addition to multi-storey buildings, terraced houses and villas, shops, churches, kindergartens and a school were also built. After the image of the park settlement has changed only insignificantly in the last 40 years, the park settlement will be supplemented by a new building area with terraced and multi-family houses on the northeastern edge from 2016.

In 1971 the park settlement reached its highest population level with 4,200 inhabitants. In 2007 around 2,800 people lived there.

As early as 1956, the area was renamed as a district of Nellingen in "Park Settlement". The park settlement has been an independent district of Ostfildern since 2006.

traffic

The park settlement is accessible with four stops for local public transport. The bus line 122 Esslingen - Stuttgart Airport serves the stop Robert-Koch-Straße, the bus line 131 Esslingen - Heumaden / Kemnat serves the stops Robert-Koch-Straße, Herzog-Philipp-Platz and Parkstraße. Until it was discontinued in 2000, bus route 130 Nellingen - Kemnat also served these three stops. Until December 31, 2015, the bus services were carried out by END Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH , from January 1, 2016, the Ruffner company from Kemnat took over all traffic on lines 122 and 131 under the brand name Filderexpress.

Since December 11, 2016, the park settlement has been part of the newly established night bus route N22. This transports people from Esslingen to the Fildern on weekends.

Since 2000, the park settlement has been connected to the Stuttgart light rail network with a stop of the same name , which is served by the following SSB lines:
