Berkheim is a district of Esslingen am Neckar and is the southernmost district. It is located on the Filder Plain, southeast of Zollberg . To the west of it is Nellingen .

Berkheim includes the Berkheim district, the Grundhöfe and Lindenhof farms and the Hammerschmiede residential area.

history

In the area of ​​Berkheim there are traces of a settlement since the 3rd millennium BC. From Roman times there are traces in the form of a villa. The first small wooden church was built towards the end of the 7th century.

1142 Berkheim was by Count Berthold von Hohenberg-Lindenfels the monastery Denkendorf bequeathed. When the monastery placed itself under the protection of Württemberg , Berkheim was caught between the fronts.

In 1535 Berkheim became Protestant.

In the 19th century, during the industrial revolution, the farming village became a workers' community. More and more residents worked in the Esslingen factories.

On May 1, 1974, Berkheim was incorporated into Esslingen. This also introduced the false choice of part of town , which ensured that three Berkheimers were always represented in the Esslingen municipal council. Furthermore, Berkheim was granted its own local administration in the contract.

In 2009 the local constitution was abolished, the tasks of the local council were taken over by a citizens' committee.

A local council was elected for the last time in Berkheim on June 13, 2004. Until then, the local council had 18, then 14 seats. The local chief was police chief inspector Gerd Moßler. After the end of the 2009 electoral period, the local constitution was abolished and the local council had to hand over its tasks to a citizens' committee.
