About this picture
Location of Hohenkreuz in Esslingen am Neckar

Hohenkreuz is a district of Esslingen am Neckar . It is located in the north of the city above the castle and is one of the popular residential areas, to which the high number of retailers in the district contributes.

politics

The contact person for the issues of the district for the city administration and the municipal council of Esslingen is the citizens' committee Wäldenbronn, Hohenkreuz, Serach, Obertal . At the district level, the citizens' committee helps shape community life. He is a member of the working group of citizens 'committees , which exists to exchange experiences and coordinate the individual citizens' committees of the city. The basis for the working method and the structure of the citizens' committee and the working group is the status adopted by the working group on February 21, 1991 . An agreement was reached as the basis for the cooperation between the citizens' committee, the municipal council and the administration . This was approved by the working group on July 17, 1990 and approved by the municipal council on December 10, 1990. In June 2000, both the status and the agreement were editorially revised.

In the public citizens 'meeting , which the city of Esslingen held on July 15, 2010 in the gymnasium and assembly hall Hohenkreuz, the citizens' committee of Wäldenbronn, Hohenkreuz, Serach, Obertal was elected for 3 years.

  • Palm'sche Schloss Hohenkreuz has probably existed since the late Middle Ages, but according to Karl Pfaff it was mentioned in a document in this form in 1698. The entire property of Baron von Palm, including all land in the Hohenkreuz district, passed into the possession of the city of Esslingen in October 1914. In the same year it went to the Reich Treasury by means of a purchase contract. The plan was to build a barracks (today's "Becelaere" barracks or the Palm'scher Park residential area) and to use the castle buildings for the military administration. Between 1994 and 1999 the Esslingen building cooperative bought the castle grounds and the park (old: Flst. 8763, then re-numbered Flst. 8761).

According to the sales contract between the city of Esslingen and the Reich Treasury in 1914, the city of Esslingen insisted that the palace gardens ("Baumgarten") remain unaffected (sales contract §13), unless there are military constraints. Since this remained undamaged until after the Second World War , leasehold areas for the self-sufficiency of the citizens in the times of emergency after the war could be shown on it. According to the previous development plan, the park is therefore subject to a construction ban. After the sale to the city, however, a development plan was drawn up in the spring of 2013, which should enable a dense, multi-storey development for the purpose of senior citizens' apartments. That is why the allotment garden areas previously used were terminated. Parts of the old, historic tree population will be removed in the upper part to enable the development and construction of underground car parks. Clearance in the lower part is planned. The castle is still owned by the Esslingen building cooperative. The demolition of several buildings on the site despite its importance as a cultural monument and a massive construction towards Hohenkreuzweg have impaired the original image since the 1990s. The Palm'sche Schloss and the park ("Baumgarten") represent the former core of the Hohenkreuz district and as an ensemble were almost untouched until well after the Second World War. The aqueduct in Obertal is, among other things, a testimony to the technical progress that connected the property to its own well via water pipes early on (probably as early as the 16th century), making it self-sufficient. The history of the Palm family is closely linked to the history of the city of Esslingen. The Palm'sche Stadtpalais is now the so-called New Town Hall on the market square.
