Mülbergerstrasse 180

The house Mülbergerstraße 180 is a restaurant from the early 20th century in the Esslingen district High cross at the corner Mülberger- / Flanders Road.

history

The house was built in 1901 for Karl Alex Wahler as a "restaurant for a beautiful view" at the upper end of Mülbergerstrasse, which was then still Panoramastrasse. The location of the building on a street corner was emphasized by a crowning bay window over a broken corner , although the Becelaere barracks , which was later opposite on Flandernstrasse, was only built more than a decade after the inn . The building, which is half-timbered from the first floor , is considered to be a document of historicism in the architecture of inns in Germany.

In 2008, American actress Katherine Heigl was doing research on her ancestors and it was found that her great-grandparents and grandfather appeared to have lived in the house for some time.

In 1928 the married couple Karl and Friederike Böhringer bought the property and ran a restaurant there. After the death of Karl Böhringer in 1929, this restaurant was continued by his wife and their daughter Paula Stiefel. A hall was attached to the building. After the war, a club for the US Army was set up in the hall. In 1948 the Americans moved out and the hall was confiscated as emergency accommodation for refugees and displaced persons. In 1950 the hall was converted into a cinema. The entire property was sold by the descendants of Friederike Böhringer to the Eißele family from Serach in the 1960s.
