Location of Liebersbronn in Esslingen am Neckar

Liebersbronn is a district of Esslingen am Neckar . It is located in the northeast of the city between Wiflingshausen in the north and Hegensberg and Kimmichsweiler in the south and is divided by the Römerstraße (K 1213). The southern part, which lies on a slope, is populated; the northern part belongs to the virgin forest .

history

Archaeological finds on the southwest slope of the Braunhalde, which were discovered in 1924, indicate settlement in Roman times. About 800 meters south of these traces of a Roman building there is a Celtic square hill. 200 to 250 meters northwest of the Viereckschanze are five prehistoric burial mounds, only one of which was examined in 1922. A Neolithic settlement area and Bronze Age burial mounds were discovered in 1939 at the Red Cross and in Saisleshau.

A first settlement is said to have been in the 9th or 10th century at a source called "Luitpertsbrunnen", but this assumption cannot be historically proven. Before 1138 the Zwiefalten monastery received a mansus in "Liubirisbrunnen" from the monastery of St. Peter in the Black Forest . Dionysius Dreytwein tells in his rhyming chronicle that the Franciscans lived above the Zimmerbach near Liebersbronn before they moved to Esslingen in 1237. This theory was derived from the field name "Mönchelen". In popular tradition, house no. 92 on Neue Straße is regarded as the seat of the monastery. However, there is a lack of reliable evidence for all of these ideas.

The first documentary evidence comes from the 13th century. In 1284, Provost Hugo and the chapter from Denkendorf Abbey sold the interest from a farm near “Luibersbrunne” to the Sirnau monastery. For the same year, a valid sale of goods in "Luperthesbrunnen" by the Sirnau monastery is documented. In 1343 the former Reichslehen Liebersbronn became a branch of Esslingen; the parishes of the Esslinger Frauenkirche and the church in St. Bernhardt were responsible for the inhabitants.

The oldest document that provides information about the building stock in Liebersbronn comes from the year 1474. It is a stock book of the Sirnau monastery, in which four houses are mentioned. Kandler's house posting protocol from the 18th century lists 41 buildings. In addition to residential houses, which were mostly provided with a barn and garden, a wine press, the “Viertelhäusle” (for dispensing the Gefäll wine) and the forester's house at Römerstraße 2 are mentioned here.

In 1803 Liebersbronn was combined with Wiflingshausen and Kennenburg to form a sub-district office of Esslingen. School-age children had to travel to Esslingen until a school was built in the town center in 1849. While Liebersbronn still had 268 inhabitants in 1813, there were slightly more than 400 in 1900 and 437 in 1927. The construction of the “Schönblick” settlement, which was completed in 1934, led to an increase in the population.

The architect Albert Brinzinger donated material for the construction of a children's home in Liebersbronn; In addition, the Jägerhaus area and the Gasthaus Zu den Drei Linden came into municipal ownership through another Brinzinger foundation in 1918.

Connection with other parts of the city

Since the 14th century Liebersbronn was connected to Esslingen by the Pfauenbergsteige. After the traffic increased towards the end of the 19th century, because z. For example, latrine wagons drove from the city to Braunhalde and, on the other hand, wooden wagons drove from Liebersbronn to Esslingen, in 1884 Neue Strasse was laid out in Liebersbronn and Esslinger Strasse in Hegensberg. Liebersbronner Strasse was laid out in 1913 as a connecting piece. Liebersbronn and Hegensberg grew together in the 20th century. For example, a joint cemetery was laid out in the Hegensberg area; In 1925 a common parish was founded, the church of which was consecrated in 1927. Between 1957 and 1959 a new church was built in the Liebersbronn area; the old church has been converted into a community center. In 1950 a new school was built, which was expanded in 1978/79. It is used jointly with the Hegensberg district. Strong population growth and greater utilization of the traffic routes meant that Liebersbronner Strasse had to be relocated and many old houses along Neue Strasse were demolished and replaced by new buildings that were moved further back.

Villa Zenneck

The villa was built in 1871 in the style of a renaissance castle according to plans by the Waiblingen architect Waelde. The builder was the Stuttgart manufacturer Julius Zenneck. In 1916 the villa became the property of the Eberspächer family. The villa has a park with a fountain and gatehouses for the porter and the gardener. A winter garden was added in the 1920s and changed in the 1950s. In 1981 a painted ceiling on the first floor and a parquet floor were restored. The address of the villa is Im Gehren 1.

  • Ruhbank
Ruhbank from 1846

Another Ruhbank stands at the confluence of the Neue in the Römerstraße. It dates from 1846 and proves that the Roman road was an important traffic route early on. In the 18th century, the Roman road, which was also called Rennweg or Weinstraße, was expanded as a transport route for wine from the lower Remstal. It was first paved in 1915.

  • Inn to the three lime trees / Jägerhaus
Old Jägerhaus (left)

The inn at Römerstrasse 1 was built in 1899 based on a design by Albert Brinzinger. The half-timbered building with walled round towers in front of it soon became a popular destination. Around 1900, the association for tourism maintained a toboggan hut with a toboggan run in the neighborhood. The building was connected to the old hunter's house to form a restaurant and hotel complex.

  • Old hunter's house

The old hunter's house at Römerstrasse 2 was built in 1750 by the imperial city of Esslingen and replaced a woodworker's hut from 1729. Until 1969, the plastered building with a mansard gable roof on a stone plinth served as the official and guard station of the forest ranger. After that, forest workers were housed in the house. In 1980 it was threatened with demolition, but from 1981 the old Jägerhaus, inside of which a baroque staircase has been preserved, was connected to the neighboring building to form the hotel complex.
