IBM Redbooks

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

IBM Redbooks are technical documentation created by the IBM International Technical Support Organization (ITSO). These Redbooks describe the installation and use of IBM products. In contrast to the product manuals, the Redbooks are based on practical experience.

These documents are available as printed books, on CD-ROMs or on the Internet as HTML documents and can be downloaded free of charge as PDF . With around 500,000 downloads per month, the IBM Redbooks are among the most popular e-books . The newer Redbooks are also provided with an ISBN .

IBM Redbooks are developed by IBM specialists, experts working for IBM business partners and experienced customer employees in so-called residencies (workshops lasting several weeks) and published after 60 to 90 days of editing. Redbooks and their articles are often cited in other publications because they are considered to be the standard publication on relevant specialist topics. Google Scholar alone provides more than 16,000 relevant references.

Often, redbooks are made available on the Internet as draft redbooks even before they are officially published and sometimes during the development process .

Redpapers are smaller technical documents and are only published on the Internet. They can also be the result of a residency process, but they can also come from other sources.
