Mettenberg is a village which was incorporated into Biberach an der Riss in 1975, east of the Riss valley and above a geological clod. The district currently has around 1,300 inhabitants.

history

Mettenberg was first mentioned around 1258 as Mettenberc . The place belonged to the rule Warthausen and in the 13th century was partly owned by the Biberach Hospital and the Heggbach Monastery. In 1806 the place fell to Württemberg and was assigned to the Oberamt Biberach. On January 1st, 1975 Mettenberg was incorporated into Biberach. The current mayor is Alexander Wachter.

The townscape is shaped by the Catholic Church of St. Alban .

The Upper Swabian Way of St. James leads through the village from Ulm to Constance .

Personalities

  • Pastor Josef Probst , also known as the pioneer of research into the geology and palaeontology of Upper Swabia, became pastor of the parish of St. Alban in 1858. Today's equipment of the church is mainly due to his work.
  • Jakob Fischer , who is best known in Upper Swabia for breeding the apple variety named after him, spent the last 15 years of his life in Mettenberg.
  • The German soccer goalkeeper Loris Karius spent his childhood and youth in Mettenberg, where he started playing soccer at SG Mettenberg.
